Re-examining the Training Model for the Future Workforce

As the labor market rapidly and dynamically changes, HR professionals and managers must find new ways to incorporate workforce development strategies that provide valuable training. Strategies such as apprenticeships augmented reality and accelerated learning models will be discussed, with a particular focus on helping HR managers map out a plan for their company’s training strategy.

Jesse McCree - CEO SCPa Works   Mr. McCree is the CEO of SCPa Works, the regional workforce development board whose mission is to unlock the human talent that drives the development of businesses and individuals, creating an opportunity for growth and prosperity for the South Central PA region. Under Jesse's leadership, SCPa Works invests in evaluates and advances high impact workforce development programs, training centers, and policies that drive our regional economic growth by connecting the needs of business and job seekers. Jesse has a Bachelors Degree from Bowdoin College (Maine) and a Masters in Public Administration from Cornell University (NY), and 11 years of experience in nonprofit management, public policy and workforce development. He serves on numerous boards of community organizations such as the PA Workforce Development Association and the U.S. Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council."

Charles Benton - Director of Career Education and Academic Services –Dover Area School District   Mr. Benton started his education career in January 1997 teaching Technology Education at a special education school in Maryland. Mr. Benton has had the opportunity to work in four different school systems over the past 22 years. Mr. Benton has been with the Dover Area School District since 2003 and moved from teaching Technology Education to the administration as the Career and Technical Education Director in 2012. While at Dover, he was able to start a nationally recognized Geospatial Technology program and was able to start a Career and Technical Education program with 10 approve PDE certified instruction programs in a normal comprehensive high school. Mr. Benton has also able to help multiple school districts in the Southcentral PA region on implementing CTE programs into their comprehensive high school. Mr. Benton has worked with several municipalities to work on their economic workforce development initiative within their municipalities. Mr. Benton has participated in helping to start a Dover workforce development association called the Dover Area Business Association to help meet the needs of the Greater Dover Area Business community. Mr. Benton has also helped with regional South-Central PA workforce development comprehensive plans.

Doran Condon - Director Pennsylvania Workforce Development Association (PWDA)   Doran has been involved in Workforce Development for over 21 years providing guidance to Youth, Adult and Dislocated worker programs. He currently is the Director of Workforce Initiatives at the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Association - PWDA serves as the voice of the Pennsylvania workforce development system and a clearinghouse for workforce development information statewide. PWDA develops and provides professional training to local workforce development boards while continuing proactive advocacy efforts on behalf of the workforce development system. Doran also serves as a volunteer for the Cumberland County Youth Aid Panel and is an avid genealogist.

Paul Young  - VP Business Development Dering Consulting  Paul is a Senior Consultant and Partner at Dering Consulting Group, a Camp Hill based firm that specializes in organizational development and training initiatives. Paul’s areas of responsibility and expertise include the implementation of competency models. facilitating teambuilding experiences and the design of custom training solutions. He has also developed Dering’s Wave Approach to leadership development, which drives deeper levels of accountability to the adoption of new leadership habits, as compared to other leadership development approaches. His portfolio of clients ranges from large, private sector businesses to state agencies and growth-oriented organizations. Paul graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelors’ degree in Secondary Education –Biology and is a 2011 graduate of the Community Leadership Series through Leadership Harrisburg Area (LHA). He is a certified Change Practitioner through Prosci. He is currently the President of the Central PA Chapter of the Association for Talent Development (ATD) serving our region's talent development and training professionals.
